Big flooring manufacturers run genuinely good recycling programmes: Tarkett's ReStart and Interface's ReEntry both collect old tiles and turn them into raw material for new ones. That's recycling, a step up from landfill, but it's not reuse, as the original tile is broken down and gone. A reclaimed carpet tile bought here is the same physical tile, still fit for a floor, at a fraction of the embodied carbon and cost of either a new or a recycled one.

Reclaimed carpet tiles keep the original tile in service rather than shredding it down for recycling, which sits higher up the waste hierarchy. Refurbished to look as good as new, reused tiles can cover a full floor at a fraction of the embodied carbon and cost of new, a practical lower-impact choice for commercial fit-outs.

Reclaimed tiles are graded on visible wear, not just age, a well-maintained office floor from a five-year-old fit-out will often outlast a poorly maintained one from a shorter refurbishment cycle. For high-traffic areas, ask specifically about wear grading rather than relying on the general condition label.
