Material Index (MI) is a team of contractors, architects, engineers and software developers focussed on enabling reuse at scale in the construction industry.

We provide tools to the industry to help contractors, consultants and building owners reuse more materials. You can use our AI Audit app for creating detailed audits with advanced reporting features. You can also buy and sell materials on our marketplace.

We also offer pre-demolition audits, material passports, and material brokerage as services direct for clients, conducted by our expert in-house team.

The Material Index team returned to British Land's 1 Appold Street for the Contracts for Innovation Demonstration Day, joined by DESNZ and UK Research and Innovation. With their funding, we showcased new AI capabilities in our Audit app that detect multiple material streams within a single component and map them to Uniclass, helping project teams spot higher-value recycling and closed-loop opportunities earlier in deconstruction.
