Oktra has joined Material Index as a contractor licence holder, putting the platform to work across their office fit-out and design projects. Their teams will use it to run audits and route reclaimed materials into reuse.

Wates has become the first Tier 1 contractor in the UK to introduce Material Index, now live across their business and available to all colleagues. Their teams use the platform to identify, track, and reuse materials from live demolition, refurbishment, and construction projects, with real-time analytics on landfill diversion, weight, volume, and carbon supporting project reporting and BREEAM requirements. The partnership backs their 2030 Pathways ambitions and their target of zero waste on sites by 2045.

Material Index welcomed Recursos Urbans as an international licence holder, bringing our platform to circular economy work in Barcelona. Ahead of kick-off in September, we are translating the platform into Spanish, so their team can catalogue, manage, and exchange reclaimed materials in their own language.

Material Index has moved into film and television through a new partnership with Leverage Point Entertainment, bringing material reuse to set construction and production design. Sets are built and struck at pace, making them a significant and largely untapped source of reusable material.

Material Index was named a winner at the FOOTPRINT+ Changemaker Awards 2026 in the 'Smart Digital Tool' category, recognising our end-to-end platform for audits, passports, material exchange, tracking, and procurement across sites, estates, and portfolios.

AND OR Consulting has joined Material Index as an international licence holder, adding to our growing presence in Australia alongside Hassell. They will use the platform to audit, catalogue, and exchange materials across their projects.

Material Exchange Lead Oliver Lawson marked two years at Material Index, looking back on the milestones along the way — from his first project at Old Ford, a water treatment plant in Stratford, to our largest at GSK Brentford, and the launch of our first digital product, the material marketplace. Here's to another two years of making reuse common practice in construction.

Director Robert Smith chaired a panel at UKREiiF, asking where material reuse actually creates value — and how the industry can capture more of it. He was joined by Roger Hawkins (Hawkins\Brown), Abby Foster (Ridge and Partners LLP), Basil Demeroutis (FORE Partnership), Marianne Thomas (M3 Consulting), and Jane Jeffreys (Willmott Dixon).

Our partnership with British Land is now underway, following their appointment of Material Index as their Circular Economy Partner. The work puts audits and material passports at the front of their projects, connecting recovered materials to reuse routes across the portfolio.

Material Index was mentioned in ArchitectureAU's article on how to integrate AI into architectural processes, where Hassell's Sian Willmott summarises the ArchitectureAu Business roundtable on the new and diverse ways practices are harnessing artificial intelligence and emerging technologies. Hassell have entered their second year as a Material Index licence holder, trialling our platform across interior and landscape projects in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, and Brisbane.

Material Index hosted 'Circularity at Scale' at Futurebuild, in collaboration with Interior Design Declares, exploring how reuse can move from ambition to delivery across building scales. The panel — Morgan Lewis, Chloe Bullock, James Ivin, Mathew Freeman, and Bradley Lobetta — joined us in the Futurebuild Connect Lounge, designed by Material Index and built entirely from reclaimed materials.
